I do think this is important.
I know from personal experience that Scripture that is memorized at such a young age stays with the learner into their adult life.

I think it’s important for young children to begin memorizing scripture. When you begin at a young age you tend to absorb more and will be able to carry it as you grow in your faith. It gives every Christian a solid foundation on which to build their life.

It is vital that young children grow up with a knowledge of the Scriptures. This knowledge is vital to their salvation, sanctification, and ability to live the Christian life amidst trial. It is also important for children to know the Scripture for themselves so they can be critical of what they are learning. Without knowing the Scripture for themselves, they can easily be led astray by contrary doctrine or secular worldviews.

Yes, Scripture is important for everyone. The Bible gives us many examples of young children learning the Scripture. Children are better at memorization than adults. When my children were young, our church had a program where the children memorized a large passage of Scripture with hand motions and songs, and then presented it in front of the church. My two year old memorized the Scripture along with his older sisters.

Scripture is important for every season of life. We see Jesus studying and knowing the Word from a young age and even Timothy. So when young children study the Scripture they are learning what God’s character is like and come to know who Jesus is and why he came.
