Absolutely. God commanded us to teach them to our children. To talk about them in our homes and to write them on our doorframes. Our kids need to know TRUTH! We live in a time of spiritual warfare. Our kids can only fight the devil if they have God’s living and breathing words inside their hearts.

Yes. Proverbs 22:6 states that we are to teach (train) our children in the way they are to go (live). Examples of this are through out scripture. The need to have truth, both relationally and practically, to help us navigate in this broken/fallen world is a must.

Absolutely. Scripture is clear in commanding us to teach our children to know God’s word. The psalmist says he has hidden God’s word in his heart that he might not sin against God. We are instructed to train children in the way that they should go — and promised that they will not depart from it when they are old. Christ sets the example of studying scripture in His childhood and then using it to avoid temptation in adulthood. Scripture contains the answers to the “big questions” of life. More and more, those who call themselves Christians are being seduced by the philosophies of the world. If Scripture is not in our students’ hearts and minds, there will be little hope for teaching them to discern the lies that are so cleverly packaged today.

Yes it’s important! God says to hide His word in our hearts. I still remember verses I memorized as a child. They are forever imbedded in my brain

I can say first hand that it is vital for young children to know scripture. I cannot tell you how a scripture I learned as a child has stuck with me. Being able to recall scripture when going through difficult times or trying to discern God’s will has been comforting for me. The Bible tells us to train up a child in the way they should go and when they are older, they will not depart from it. God gives us all free will. There will be times in life when our students will test what they have learned against the principles of the world. They may even stray from their Christian upbringing even if for a short time. That happened in my own life. The one thing that remained constant, even when I strayed as a young adult, it that scripture was always brought back to mind and that kept Jesus’ hand on my heart and life. He left His flock many a time to retrieve me and welcome me back into the fold. If students are rooted in the practice of memorizing scripture, being shown how scripture truly is relevant to their daily lives and learn how to navigate their Bible, they too will be able to recall and depend on scripture as their root in Christianity, their lifeline to God.
