Do you think it is important for young children to know Scripture? Explain.

It is absolutely important for young children to know Scripture. God tells us to hide His Word in our hearts. We should begin to teach children how to do that very early in life. They are so capable of memorizing and they often do it much quicker than adults. God will reveal himself to even the littlest of children through His Scripture. The scriptures also tell us to talk about the truths of the Bible over and over, as we walk, as we talk, as we eat, as we lie down, or are awake. We need the Word in us so we can stand against the schemes of the devil and know God. Children are no different than adults in this.

I think it is very important for everyone one to know scripture. However, I know that some of the watered down versions of scripture that I was told as a child were not accurate representations of the original story. For example, the story of Jonah in the whale was dramatized in my Sunday school, but the full story is a multi-dimensional masterpiece that deserves a deeper investigation at even early ages.

It is so important for young children to grow up learning and knowing Scripture because God is revealing Himself through Scripture (the same as why it is important to me as a Christian educator). It is so much easier to memorize Scripture when you are young. Hide God’s Word in your heart that you might not sin against God.

It is incredibly important for children to memorize scripture….to hide God’s word in their hearts. Although they may not understand it fully at the time, the Holy Spirit is working in their little hearts…His word does not return void. When they are facing challenges in their lives, they will be able to recall those Bible verses to be comforted or to comfort others.

I think it is helpful for young children to know scripture because when something attacks them or comes at them in a way that they have had a biblical understanding, they can use scripture in their minds or our out of their mouths to express how they are feeling. It may help them at that moment have peace or an understanding of what to do or how to handle a situation or maybe why something is happening. When there is a scripture to fall back on it seems that peace and calm presents itself.
