Do you think it is important for young children to know Scripture? Explain.

The importance is in knowing that what they may not understand in the moment will be fully understood in their future lives. If the words are there the meaning will be revealed as they are looking for the true answers to the Big Questions of life as they get older and must deal with the problems of the world.

I believe it is vitally important for young children to know Scripture, as it is commanded unto us in Deuteronomy 6. Just as was shared in the lesson from Piper’s book, “it shapes the way we live this life and shows us the way to eternal life.”
Ironically, tonight on 60 minutes they featured a school in South Africa intent on bridging the many years of cultural gap and differences by teaching magic. On a surface level, it’s so easy to celebrate what they are doing in order to break down the years of injustice through apartheid, etc. To see the kids come together from different socio-economic backgrounds and to celebrate one another as they master juggling and slight of hand card tricks all seems so light-hearted and fun, until you hear the kids defend that it’s not “dark magic”. I could suddenly see the new testament passages where the sorcerers were burning their magic books, etc. It grieved me to see something portrayed as so innocent would continue to appear so, unless someone had read the same Scriptures that had come to my mind immediately as the news story continued to unfold.

Yes, I think it is very important for children to know the Scriptures. They are so impressionable when they are young and we want to instill God’s Word in them so that as they grow they can recall the Scriptures.

Yes! That is the best time for them to really hide it in their hearts to draw on for the rest of their lives.

I absolutely think it is important for young children to learn Scripture. It is so much easier for young minds to memorize scripture, and as children grow, they will be able to easily recall the word of God when faced with trials.
