Yes it is important for young children to know scripture because when they learn it young it sticks with them and is easier for them to remember.

It is very important for young children to know Scripture. If they learn it at a young age, it becomes embedded in their minds and hearts and they can use it in all of life’s circumstances. The younger they start learning Scripture, the sooner it becomes a normal part of their lives.

Knowing scripture is the foundation of our faith. It is rooted in the word of God. Otherwise, Satan can twist our faith the way he tried to do to Jesus during the temptation. But Jesus was not swayed because he knew the truth and could quote it through the Bible.

I believe that it is vital for young children to know Scripture. If we are constantly preaching the importance of the Bible and all it contains, we would be at a loss to neglect to teach the children to hide these truths in their hearts. Additionally, the Scriptures command us to rehearse Scripture with our families and children in Deuteronomy. Finally, children are sponges at a young age, what better time to ground them in the truths of the Word than in their impressionable and formative years?

Knowing scripture as a child is a wonderful way to learn scripture because children have a much easier time memorizing than adults. It also will help establish a routine of memorizing scripture and make it a priority in their lives. Memorizing scripture will also help them navigate social situations that arise during childhood. God will be with them as they learn about how they should live their life, make friends, and who they are in Christ.
