This is revolutionary, mind-blowing, and liberating! Releasing ANY vision I have for someone–other than that we walk together toward the goal of increasing our appetite for Christ AND our very personal and real experience of Him allows me to get out of the way and to let God have complete control over the process and outcome. If He can do more than we can even imagine, why would I want to limit a person’s growth and healing to what I could imagine for them? I am also thinking that the more I am able to release any sense of control as to the outcome, as I am able to share the way to increase one’s appetite for Christ and how to experience Him, that not only will the other person ultimately benefit–but that God will bless me with the same incredible gifts. And right now–to be very vulnerable–I need these things to happen in my own life as desperately as any one person that could sit down next to me.

When our vision is to not master techniques but to whet our friend’s appetite to know God deeper and allow him to experience God so that he cares more about God than he does about his issue, there’s no treatment plan apart from the powerful work of the Holy Spirit. We confess our inadequacy and trust the Lord to mature this friend in His own time and according to His will. This FREEs me of my competency and making it happen.

As a person who often helps people, I usually approach the individual’s concern by trying to fix the problems and sometimes with anxiety for fear of being unable to help. Moving forward, I will approach SoulCare differently by relying on God and not my “own competence.”

You will totally depend upon the Spirit in order to touch someone’s life. You aim to arouse the appetite for God greater than other appetite in the person you are providing SoulCare.
