Processing activities enable students to think information through, internalize it, and apply it to want they may already know. These activities should be the ‘I do’ part of the I see, and I hear learning process.

Processing activities is when students go back and revisit what they have already learned so far. They think about each item, look at how they have applied it, reflect on how the learning has affected them. This will show them how they have grown and how they have learned to apply things they learn without realizing it. When use this process to reflect on how students are applying biblical principles to their learning from what you have taught them. (Those principles should be included in your instruction.) Taking the time to go back and see how you have changed helps you to realize the progress you have made and see that you can change for the better, you can learn, you can….

When applying a particular concept throughout your curriculum, students can start to see how they can begin to discern truth from theory on their own. They begin to ask the right questions on their own.

Processing activities involve integrating Scripture in the curriculum, for example in teaching a Literature lesson which involves characters in a story equate that with Biblical characters.

Processing activities allow the student to consider what has been presented to them, then come to terms with whether they agree or are struggling with adopting the “Biblical view.” If they are struggling, why and where is the stumbling block? Unfortunately, in my case, I have many students who are attending a Christian School because it is a good and affordable private school option, but the consideration of whether they are a “believer” and, even more so, whether their parents are “believers” is a point of concern. Until the student is able to consider the Bible as the “truth” and the standard by which we should live our lives, direct our thoughts and determine the way we engage with others, it is foolishness to them.

All of these are the underlying conditions that either contributes to or confound the Christian education process for many students.

Processing activities help the teacher measure the learning of the students.
