Processing activities, within the context of a Christian worldview, are designed to guide students’ thinking towards discovering truth. They help to resolve the potential confusion that can arise from the clash between secular and biblical perspectives.

“Processing Activities” are moments throughout the lesson when you allow students the time and space to reflect on the day’s or week’s lesson. These are helpful because it allows both the teacher and student to understand the ‘why’ behind each lesson. I teach 6th grade science and this makes me think about the Earth History unit I teach every Spring. An idea I would love to implement this year is to have students record what they believe about the creation of the Earth before and after the unit and to have them memorize Scripture from Genesis. Each year, I always discuss Creation with them, but I think this processing activity would put the onus on each student to discern what they believe about Creation.

Processing activities are instructional strategies or tasks designed to help students actively engage with and internalize the material they are learning. are vital for transforming information into deeper understanding and long-term retention. They include active engagement, reflection & interaction.

For example, summarizing a lesson or participating in a group discussion helps solidify learning. On a final note, processing activities cater to diverse learning styles and allow students to process information in ways that work best for them, ensuring all students can find meaning in the curriculum.
