At the sned of a section or unit, we debrief, and students and teachers have an opportunity to reflect on what they have learned. As a result, they process it more deeply. This allows them as individuals and as a group to integrate the content into a cohesive structure with other unites and learned elements.

Processing activities take place at the end of a unit, the end of a lesson, or at the end of a specific time period. Students need to reflect and revisit the topics that we covered in previous lessons. The students will have more information that they can use to add richness to their answers. They will have a different level cognitively.

Processing activities is going over lessons that they have learned in the past and making sure students learn deeper and are better able to remember it. This allows for a coherent curriculum because it is repetitive and able to allow students to remember what they are learning.

A “processing activity” can be understood as a set of processing steps serving a single, overarching purpose. Making sure that your students understand your lesson that day, and even review it the next few days so it’s not forgotten.
