Taken as a whole, the six principles of relationship are simply a mirror of the best that is freedom of religion in our country. We have a long way to go to practice what we preach.

genuine, respectful, humble, fair, discerning and discreet. without any of these 6, it will difficult to build a tolerant community with religious harmony.

What affect have other religions had on your community?
    Be Genuine.
People can see through someone who is insincere very quickly. Most people know and can recognize rhetoric that is spouted as absolute truth. I have learned that I have to be myself even though I am self-confessed quirky and sometimes I drive myself crazy, but I am sincere, and I am genuine. I don’t flatter and God only lets me tell the truth. I have to be me, God says so.
    Be Respectful
One wonderful thing my very Christian dad taught me was to respect all people and along with that to respect other’s property, beliefs, or anything else that was my brother/sisters because we are all God’s creation. I can easily tell people that I love them and respect them because God…and my dad…loved me first.
    Be Humble
I believe that God brought me back to my little hometown in order to deal with my pride and, yes, He has. No one really likes to listen to someone who is so full of pride they can’t see past their nose and I’m
    Be Fair
Again, I was raised to value fairness and justice. I see so many people around me who don’t even seem to have an inkling what this means. God is always fair just as God is always just.
    Be Discerning
My of the things I have tried to teach especially is the need for discernment, I listen to so many people here who my friends are but I am on such a different path it astounds me. In fact, I was just at our Senior Center here. I was talking with a man I’ve known for years and disagreed with for just as many. He is Buddhist by faith. We respect each other and we listen to each other, and we end up by agreeing to disagree while folks around us think we are mad at each other, but we end with a smile and sometimes a hug and we keep on trying to convert each other.
    Be Discreet
Discretion is the best part of valor, and this is another lesson I’ve been learning. Sometimes I get too carried away in wanting others to join with me in praying for others and I’m just to open about people. My life is an open book but that doesn’t mean I can be a gossip or teller of tales.

To be genuine means to be concerned about each other’s welfare.
To be respectful means we can learn about their beliefs and understand why it is significant to them.
Being humble will help us appreciate how little we know about other people’s social customs and beliefs.
Being fair helps us to be tolerant of other faiths.
Being discerning means acknowledging all religions have differences and we must ask the question, “what is the truth?”
Being discreet means we must not condemn others because of what we believe.
