I learned from my parents and grandparents, as well as people in our church. I was the oldest so I didn’t really learn from my brother 🙂

After I was born, my mother went into post-partum depression. In those days, depression was not well understood by country doctors. My mother was emotionally absent for me, yet physically present. In my naïve foolishness I quickly learnt not to cross her because bad things happened if I did. So, I went into myself and became an anxious, or as the term then was ‘highly strung,’ child. As I grew up I occasionally challenged my mother, but always came of worse, so in my learned foolishness I become a compliant child to keep the peace.

As a child: I excelled in academics, had a lot of friends, and drew attention for a physical “cute”ness. Therefore the equation was made: this is how your worth is measured, this is what you are in the eyes of others. If these places of achievement, relationships and physical attraction are challenged or removed, you are no longer valued in society.

I would say through what I saw from my parents or the adults around me and what I listened to.
