God in His wisdom chooses to delegate many important things to us as representatives and under-shepherds of the Chief Shepherd. How does this fact change how you see yourself as a leader? Who in your flock can you empower to help you lead?

Having the responsibility of being a shepherd or under-shepherd not ownly comes with required leadership abilities but also in training younger people. This is what Jesus did, he mentered the disciples for three years not to be sheep but to be shepherds or under-shepherds. We need to lead but also train more people to be leaders.

As an under-shepherd, I must follow Gods delegation with my team-mates so we can be good representatives of God. As a leader, I can empower my students with wisdom, to help me lead the flock.

Realizing that God gives us important responsibilities as leaders changes how we see ourselves. We must lead with humility and care, making sure our actions reflect God’s will. This means we are not just overseers but caretakers of God’s flock, working together and sharing responsibilities.
Empowering others in our community to help lead makes our job easier and helps everyone grow. By recognizing people’s strengths and gifts, providing training, giving them tasks, encouraging teamwork, and offering support, we can create a strong, unified community. This way, our leadership mirrors how Jesus trained and supported His disciples, ensuring our community thrives together.

The fact that we are chosen as representatives and under-shepherds of the Chief Shepherd is quite humbling. This is an enormous responsibility as well as a great privilege. We must, therefore, understand fully God’s commandments, statutes and purposes. We must lead with compassion, courage and commitment to the fold; both individually and as a flock. Constantly observing, redirecting, and searching for the lost and strays. We can empower others by understanding their abilities, limitations and impart confidence in them for the leadership roles we are empowering with.

That is just the thing with me, my expectation is for everyone to experience leadership responsibility at some point in their lives. Learning to take responsibility for your fellow brothers and sisters is how I was raised. I showed exemplary leadership skills as a leader on the home front. There were several siblings who were selfish and uncaring and did not care to take responsibility, but I kept going and eventually had a flock that was experiencing leadership throughout the family. So, my expectations are that we all will lead at some point in time or another.
