I think it is completely natural and healthy to doubt anything you are told. Not only is it natural, it can be healthy, as long as you are not lazy in the matter. Not being able to question a belief or assertion is a key determinant of a cult. This doubt or question in your mind should lead to exploration and an honest search for the truth. Laziness in this effort is where so many go off the rails. It is one thing to be told a truth. It is quite a different thing to be able to find reasons and proof that satisfies your mind and heart of the truth of the question for one’s self. I personally believe this is why we are losing generations to the world. Our youth groups are so geared toward “community” and being a part of the group, that the kids have not and are not able to go find the reason to believe for themselves. So, when they go to college and have another “community”, they gravitate to their belief because one hasn’t already been grounded in them. As a person, and father of kids who have gone through this, I have seen this in myself and in my kids. Not being lazy and putting the work and effort into the process of knowing for myself why I believe has made my belief in the existence of a God, and who that God is, strong.

Yes, I have doubted. Seeing evil thriving and the injustices in the world including my own suffering made me question God’s existence. I had a critical thinking professor and an atheist friend who helped seal the deal. I also did not have a good understanding of Christ, salvation, or grace. I thought it would be easier and more enjoyable to live without God. If there was a God, I reasoned I was doomed anyway because I could not live up to his standards. It took two serious illnesses and the collapse of my life for me to even think about God. I came to him as a last resort. He surprised by my responding and letting me know he was real and that he loved me. That’s when healing began for me. I am running my race now.

There have been brief moments of wondering how I can be so certain that God exists, but for the most part this has always been a belief I have held. These questions often arise in the midst of a difficult situation when I ask how could God allow this to happen. However, as this lesson demonstrates, we can look to the careful planning God made in creation itself to see His existence.

Yes, I have, I learned about God since I was a child but I really did not know if God was real or not because I found it hard to believe in the things that God could do. It was not until I personally accepted God at the age of 18 that I completely believed in God.
