I have only had discussions about creation and evolution in secular courses. Mostly I was explaining how there are two different beliefs about how they relate to each other. It was not a very satisfactory discussion and was hard to get the students to really understand what was going on since they had only ever heard the Big Bang Theory. I would love to get into how evolution is a way to try to explain God’s plan for the earth and how all of the creatures are on the Earth.

I love to have these discussion with my students. It is fun to debate. I try to be respectful and I don’t get upset. I am honest with the students and when I don’t have an answer I research and get back with them. We use many different resources to find answers from a Biblical world view.

In my classroom we have had many discussions about evolution and creation. Our creation based curriculum does an excellent job presenting information on evolution that has led to many wonderful discussions. It is especially discussed during our chapter on dinosaurs. I think it is important that we do talk about evolution so students will understand what it is and what others believe. We also talk about how they can have respectful disagreements with people who do believe in evolution. I find it interesting that most of the students say it takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in our creator God.

I find that students are open to discussing creation and evolution. They have a many incomplete ideas because (a) they haven’t read Genesis in a long time and (b) they have a water-down understanding of evolution. Therefore, when you can provide them with new data, they are like sponges and want to understand it better.

There have been times in my elementary courses that we have talked about creation but not really gotten into a discussion of evolution. I may consider a lesson plan on creation or some part of creation and adding on what God’s Word says about it.
