In our early homeschool I used many Montessori approaches with my preschool aged children. They were given options in their learning, but all the options where guiding them toward the path that I wanted them to learn. We loved it!

I enjoy having students chose their own projects or order of centers to do or writing topic. However, I do feel children have to learn certain things whether they find it interesting or not.

No, I’ve always taught in a traditional type of setting and I prefer this approach.

I experienced it as a student in university class as the prof taught that the enlightened instructor recognizes that all knowledge is inside of his/her students and just has to bring it out, facilitating instead of teaching. “The days of sit and get are over.” This is so opposite to Truth.

I have incorporated this approach in some aspects of my classroom. I give students structured choices. They can choice from the options I have provided. However, I also make sure they learn how to do all the things expected of them.
