I have memorized Scripture throughout my life. When I have been going through a personal experience that I did not have control over. I have been able to stand on a word that just seemed to come to me. But I knew it was from having to memorize scripture, when I was young, during school, church, and even at home. Because I learned them from an early age, I have always had a foundation of scripture to guide me along the way.

I have been memorizing and applying scripture to my life, since childhood. It has been embedded in my heart, mind, and soul, which reflects His character in and through me towards others. Because of faith in the enriched Word of God and prompting of His Holy Spirit, I have been able to transition through several disciplines as a professional- Lead minister, mental health therapist, substance abuse therapist, decorated combat veteran, over twenty years as a life-skills and character psych educator in school districts, colleges, and universities- as well as husband, father, caretaker, every walk of life.

I have memorized Scripture. My pastor is always encouraging us to memorize Scripture. I believe it is a very powerful too in the life of a Christian. In any circumstance you can stop and pray and following the Spirits guidance He brings to memory specific verses that can help you in the reaction you can have, or in the answer you have to give, or even encourage us in moments of frustration or sadness. Memory verses are a special treasure and you also hear testimonies of persecuted Christians that have survived terrible circumstances with the help of the Scriptures they had memorized.

I have memorized Scripture. I am currently working on memorizing the Gospel of John. I have memorized chapter 1 through part of 9. To memorize I do a lot of repetition, saying it out loud while reading it from the page and then reciting the verse again repetitively in order to get it to sink into my brain. I have found it useful to have God’s Word readily available to call on when I need it to refer to in the classroom when answering a student’s question. I have found it useful in my personal life because it helps me see how the entire book fits together and to see the structure and flow. This helps me to understand everything in its context and have a deeper understanding of God’s Word.
