Yes, I have memorized Scripture. Memorizing Scripture brings Scripture to my mind when I am facing trials and also during other times. I memorized some Scripture as a child, but more in college. I went to a secular university but got involved with a Christian organization on campus that emphasized Scripture memory. I also memorized lots of Scripture as I helped my children memorize Scripture.

Throughout my walk with the Lord, I have not made memorization a high priority. I think that by memorizing a few verses and taking time to study the passage the memory text comes from, I will be able to recall better the text and use it to take my thoughts captive and remember what God says is true.

When you are familiar with scripture, the Holy Spirit brings that to your mind at times when you need to hear it. And because you know an recognize scripture, it’s not just a vague concept, you recognize it as the actual Word of God.
