Have you memorized any Scripture? If so, how has that impacted your life? If not, how do you think you could begin to memorize Scripture?

Yes. When faced with questions about doctrine or how to live, verses memorized, even when i no longer remember the verses verbatim, enable me to distinguish between truth and falsehood. Scripture protects us from being blown about by new waves in the culture and serves to convict and guide.

Yes I have memorized scripture. It has helped me in many areas of my life. Guiding me when I feel lost, encouraging others, reminders of who God is. It is a place I can always go to rest.

Memorizing scripture started in my childhood with verses hanging on my bedroom wall but went on to include Sunday school, elementary school, Bible clubs, and quiz teams. While memorizing came easily when I put in the time or effort, I missed the spiritual value until later in my adult life. While I didn’t at first appreciate the value, I found the scripture I was memorizing would be the scripture God would give me to share with friends in difficult situations and these would be the words which would readily surface as I prayed. While the verses I studied would come to mind, the verses I memorized could be used to meet any need in my life and the lives and situations of those I loved.

I’ve memorized quite a bit of scripture since I grew up in a Christian household and have taught at a Christian school for the past ten years. I use scripture to help me get through problems and storms in my life. They’re reminders of God’s love and promises.

I have memorized scripture since a child. One of the first scriptures I learned was Philippians 4:6: Do not be anxious about anything but in EVERYTHING by prayer and petition, make your requests known unto God. Later, in life as I have had occasion to recall this scripture, I realized verse 7 is an important follow up and has proven true: And the peace of God which trancends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I can go before God with any situation and He not only hears me, but answers. Now the answer may not be what I expect or the way I want it. Yet he answers. When I was going through a painful divorce 6 years ago, a friend was encouraging me with a word: The Lord will give back the years the locusts have eaten. Now a few years before this, I heard that and at the time, did not seem relevant in my life. However as I look at where I am now, God allowed me to go through that painful place, through no fault of my own, humbled me to knees to pray and put my life into his hands. He helped me care for my two children. He showed me through scripture how and where he was moving and was preparing me for His next assignment. After having gone through all that and never wavering in my faith or trust in God, he has brought restoration to my life and did give me back the years the locusts had eaten. I want to memorize the Armor of God before Easter. I used to know it by heart and as I get older, it has faded. But my journaling helps me remember scripture. This is how I plan to memorize the Armor of God.
