I think this is something that I find myself constantly confronted with. Too often, I won’t make my time with the Lord my highest priority and will leave spending time with Him as the overflow of what I have remaining in a day. While it’s challenging and even frustrating at times, I find encouragement in the moments of brokenness before God, where I can fully surrender my own strength to what He may be wanting to do in/through my life!

My new life saying is “if dependence is the objective then weakness is an asset.” I don’t have to be strong or in control of everything; in fact, I need to be a weak mess because that is when it is all God and not me in any sense. He can accomplish way more than I ever could.

Every day, although I’m still terrible at it. For instance, when my wife and I fight and I’m upset, I purposefully take a few minutes to get away and pray, asking the Lord what I should do instead of saying/doing what my own heart tells me. The Lord is always faithful to speak (if I will be faithful to listen and obey) and the outcome is much better for both of us, and I’m able to represent Christ better.

We can’t function or effectively live without God’s strength and grace. Anytime I try to do it myself, I’m stepping out of God’s will for my life – it always ends up worse than when I find my strength and hope in God.

I think everyone does. In those moments you realize that there are things out of your control that only God has control over and no amount of effort on my part will be enough.
