Most helpful for me was the reminder about the Spirit dynamics and what it means that as believers we have been given a New Covenant (new purity, new identity, new appetite and new power).

That it is a work of the Spirit. Because I trust the image of God in that person and what the new covenant says is true of them, deep inside

I think for me having vision for another, understanding we are all under a new covenant that can overpower the flesh dynamics in us, and helping people on their journey to develop an appetite for God that surpasses all else, so that our demands become desires, and desires become seconds!!! This quote from Dr Crabb has carried me along this journey of learning out to “Soul Care” well and I am sure it will continue to do so because it is essential.

I think the most profound concept is that my purpose is to help this person come to the point of recognizing that their unhindered relationship with God is so much more important than any problem. That when He is first in their hearts and lives everything else loses it’s importance and it’s hold on them. BUT I can’t show them that unless I am there first where my relationship with Jesus is always first.

The concept of reviewing my own interior world first before any thoughts of the other person has been very helpful for me. It keeps me in check. It curtails my judgements and opinions, and helps me put myself in “their shoes” quicker. I appreciate that.
