Isaiah 53 Lectures, 1544, as Example.
1. Preacher and Proclaimer of the Word.
a. Proclaim not only in His words, also in His whole life, death, and resurrection.
b. God has come to Save.
2. Paradox of king as servant, and servant as king.
a. Characteristics of divine king, comes as a lowly human servant.
b. Luther main point is on the suffering of Jesus.
c. Christ’s whole life was about suffering, and sacrifice.
3. God died in Christ as substitute for sinners.
a. Christ laid down His life for all of humanity, the entire world.
1. Not just for tax collectors, prostitutes, not just for sinners, but also for the pious, for the Pharisees.
2. Work there way into Heaven through there own good works.
3. Religious works, and who want to be religious.
4. He took on all of humanity, our sinfulness upon Himself, the result of our sinfulness, our death upon Himself.
4. Resurrection of Christ as key to life of believers:
a. Cross is the revelation of the love and power of God.
b. Resurrection of Christ is the key to our life.
c. Bringing together divine nature and human nature.
d. Christ lives a the God-Man to all eternity.
