Prayer and Bible reading is like communication with people. In prayer, I am telling God my needs and in Bible reading, God is telling me what I need to know, his will and truth. It is a dynamic interaction and through it, I can learn what God wants of me and I can draw closer to God.

It’s hard to think of a book as a part of a two-way communication, but it makes sense. It also will stop you from think of devotional time as a list of needs/wants that you ask for and that it’s not all about you.

It was very revealing to call the Bible “a love letter from our Heavenly Father.” That created a meaningful way of viewing the Bible as I read it, as if the same caring voice is talking to me on every single page. I think that answers the two questions given.
