How did the principle of two-way communication (prayer and Bible reading) impress you? Why?

I often pray Jeremiah 33:3, asking Holy Spirit to show me what I’ve never known before. I do this because I need help interpreting the scriptures!

Just like in a relationship, you can’t simply take, take, take. Relationships are a 2-way street of give and take. We need to be in God’s word, receiving what God is telling us through his Word, as well as pray and tell God what is on our hearts and minds.

It’s two very different ways of communicating. Reading a letter gives us a time to think and digest. Praying gives us time to petition and cry out as well as worship

We need to take time to be still and listen. Listen for what God is telling us and how He is guiding us. We talk to God and share our feelings, concerns, joys and sorrows. We then need to just be still and listen for His answers. Apply what you read in your prayers and ask for understanding. Listen for the answer.

In the professor’s presentation, the attention he advocated that is to be paid to the Word of God–and the work of God, already experienced and accomplished that stirred thanksgiving and openness–gives an appealing vision of what prayer can be.
