We must have two way communication between us and God if we are to allow the Holy Spirit to open up the mysteries of God’s Word to us.
I use Turning Points as my devotional book but now I see I must pray about its meaning more and let God lead me .

I use Our Daily Bread devotional to start my day. The part I most enjoy was the question on what part of my life does the lesson could be applied. Answering it helps me to remember it and be watchful for experiences to make it real for me. Finally at end of day, I recap it by giving thanks for the lessons and the challenged it has brought me .

This lesson really changed the way I looked at my Bible reading. Often times I would just read and pray as though I am finised with my to do task. Now it’s really more about getting to know His truth on a deep level.

It impressed me because we tend to think of prayer and Bible reading as a thing that WE do and that God expects of us. However, it is through Gods word and spirit that He can speak to us and work in us. It is helpful to know that God is always right there with us in our prayer and it is not something that we are along in doing. The Lord is with us and knows the condition of our hearts.

This is so key because if we pray a lot, but don’t listen, we aren’t growing in our knowledge of God and His ways. If we study a lot but don’t pray we often are trying to grow in the flesh instead of the power of the Holy Spirit. This will lead to discouragement and failure.
