After 16 years of teaching in both Christian and public education, when a student realizes that they were fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator of the universe and that they were designed intentionally with a purpose, they not only value themselves but their education as well. I feel that this plays deeply into my calling. I am first called to plant seeds, water, and cultivate the child’s spiritual well-being by educating them on what the Bible says about who they are, where they came from, and what their future holds.

I am not yet teaching, however this gives me a definitive perspective of the importance my role should be for communicating God’s love and salvation.

It gives purpose. We are becoming part of a divine purpose to see children, children that are not our own, learn about who our God is and how to become His child. Through Christian education we have this freedom. I do not have the freedom in a public school setting. Often I desire to explain Truth to them when they have questions that go beyond the basics of education. I see them hurting and yet, because of the laws I am not free to share with them the message of hope. By becoming a Christian educator I hope to have this freedom.

I teach Biology, which attempts to answer the big important questions. The lesson makes me think to be more intentional in how Biology aligns with God’s answers/Truth tot he big important life questions.

As a Christian educator, it is definitely a calling to be in this special space. As an Intervention High School teacher, I have many touch points with the students. I encourage students to be confident and lean on Jeremiah 29:11. When I use the word of God to remind students that they are created in the image of God and to believe the truth not what the enemy tries to plant in their minds. I loved the reading about the Christian urban schools and the Big 3 questions being applied to all classrooms no matter the socio-economic demographics. The academic outcome is standardized when the focus is on God’s principles.
