    I have been a public school teacher for seven years and next school year will be my first year working for a Christian school. Nonetheless, my purpose has always been to share the gospel with my students because I know that they have an eternal soul, as mentioned in this lesson, as well as in the previous lesson. I also make it a point to share the good news with their parents because the children are under their care and often times parents are overwhelmed and don’t know what to do because they don’t seek the Lord. Like John, I know that God has entrusted things that uniquely pertain to me and He wants me to use them to teach the next generation. He has called me to teach and one thing that I do believe I must do is to teach them the fear of the Lord as stated in Psalm 34:11 which was also the last sub-point in My Philosophy: “to know and serve God”.

    I just finished my first year as a computer science teacher. I am still struggling how to share more about God in my curriculum, but I do hope that how I teach, the person I am, and how I show love and care for my students helps them to ask these questions: Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going? What is the meaning of life? And I try to connect with as many students to learn more about them and build a relationship with them. So that they can feel safe to ask me those questions about God and why I believe. And this is my first summer as a teacher, and before when I had vacation from previous jobs, I did not miss being at work most of the time. But almost at the beginning of my summer vacation, I felt the same way as in the lecture stated “you miss your students in the summer because that’s the very reason why you exist.”

    Psalm 139:14
    English Standard Version
    14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
    Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
    My students are made for so much more than the hedonistic false teaching of our current society that promises self love and happiness are the goal. When I approach my struggling students, even when I am feeling impatient, it is a gift to know that God has created them and loves them enough to die for them. It puts things into perspective and encourages me to be more Christ-like in my responses.

    I do love the heading of this lesson. The ability to answer the big questions with little ones is the reason I am in Christian education. My fellow public school teachers are not allowed to answer these questions like, who am I and what am I here for. They leave students with unfulfilled and untrue views of themselves and puts students on a path of destruction. The Bible tells us all the answeres to the big questions. Giving students Biblical context and understanding of themselves and the world around them through God’s looking glass (the Bible) is a priveledge.

    This lesson reminds me of the immense responsibility and privilege we have as Christian educators. We are educating students for eternity! We have been called to a very important purpose. Who we are, where we came from, where we are going, what is the meaning of life…all of those can be answered through God’s Word. I want my eyes and ears to be open for opportunities to point that out to my students as well as others around me.
