How do the concepts discussed in this lesson apply to your work in your classroom?

The idea of reminding myself and my students that each are a creation of God, and that each have a soul, makes me more aware of my responsibility to teach way more than just subject content. The fate of my student’s eternal destination should weigh more heavily on my heart, than the grade they receive in my course.

I believe those apply to every day living. I think it is very important what we let influence our lives and our belief system because it will eventually flow from us to our students, independently of what we teach. I believe teaching gives you the opportunity to build relationships with the students and through those relationships influence those around us.

Although I am not currently in a Christian school classroom, these concepts are vital for students to grasp and live by. For example, if I repeatedly teach them that every person, including them, is made in the image of God (Gen 1:26-28) and live this out in the classroom through my interactions with them, then they will grasp and live by this biblical truth. I should constantly point students to God’s Word as these questions come up. Students will ask these questions, especially when tragedy or difficulty hits their homes. Therefore, it is important for them to see that God’s Word answers these essential questions of life.

I try to remember to keep things Christ-centered. I teach music and dance and talk about the importance of these things in worship. We pray when we need to and go to the Bible when we need to. Always keeping God present in the classroom is truly a blessing that makes such a difference.

I can’t say I have any real teaching experience. I have been working in the office of a Christian school for several years and now desire to take on a teaching position. My hope is that I can find creative ways to apply these concepts in the classroom to further my abilities in teaching and help grow these children in more ways than simply having them regurgitate information. I want them to grow just as much as I do and see them succeed, specifically finding the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
