It just agrees with what I teach my children each day, that they are created by God and He has made them with gifts and talents for a specific purpose.

Just yesterday I was asked, “Why did God make us?” I had an answer as did my colleagues that all pointed to a Heavenly Father and His Glory and Creation Story of how he loves us, and how we are to glorify Him.

The concepts in this lesson are foundational for realizing the importance of the role I have as a Christian educator. Being able to understand God’s role for me as a believer is necessary so that I may help my students understand as well. The philosophy serves as an anchor when I am working with students in comparing world views in education to biblical world views.

It is important to also see beyond the lessons to be taught, but also to be involved in the students’ lives as they struggle to make the right decisions, and when they reach up to us when they needed guidance and comfort. I work with mostly students with academic and behavior challenges, and it is easy to just come short with them. However, when I took the time to sit down with them and just had a heart to heart talk, that was when I can see the underlying problems and why they are so broken, and it is when I can share the goodness of God and reach out to them.

The power of a philosophy is strong. It anchors us, yes, but it also influences how we behave. Dwelling upon the second of the two has been the most important point I have gleaned from this lesson. If I am truly anchored to my philosophy, I will be compelled to behave in that truth. This is why it is essential to establish our philosophy on the Word of God as Christian educators. If I establish my philosophy in a clear way, I can influence my students with my behavior in the classroom, whether that be positive or negative. However, when my philosophy is planted firmly in God’s truth, my students can only benefit from that.
