During math lessons, I connect the tasks we are doing to things that professionals do. I help students see how a single problem is part of a larger problem that professionals may be working on as they complete a project. When something resonates within them, I encourage them to investigate it further.

Presently, God has called me into writing Children’s books. My students are my readers. I am working on building self worth, their value, and their place as believers. My first published book, Marvelous Work, teaches their value and abilities which are God given. My most recent book, Life with Bee will be out in late fall of 2021. This series teaches how to apply the Word of God into their daily walk. I pray that through their reading they understand who they are through Christ, and the abilities they have… THEIR SKILLS!

To be honest, I haven’t specifically approached the subject with students to find their God-given calling. I talk to my seniors about what they are planning to do when they graduate. I pray in course for them to have wisdom and to be open for God’s leading. We have taken time away from art course to make cards for the nursing home and I have went into detail about how encouraging it is for the residents to receive a gift from them.

I pray for God to give me his spiritual eyes…to see my students individually, the way he sees them. I listen for that nudge in my spirit and respond to what God wants me to say/encourage that particular child in that moment. Also when students are stumped with what to do next or with their future, I encourage them to seek God first. He created them and has a purpose for their life that only he can truly show them.

I encourage my students to have “Chair time” with God. Sit and listen. Think about what it is that they would like to do and what it is that God is telling them and leading them to do. Chair time involves nothing but a chair and prayer. No cell phones or any other distractions. They are able to give their full attention to God and focus on his voice.
