I am very open with my students. I share many stories of the things God has done in my life. My hope in doing this is that when God speaks to them personally they will recognize his voice and answer.

I often encourage them to first follow the gifts they have been given. Each of us has unique gifts and so we often find our calling using those gifts. Also to remember that it is not always a straight path to our gift. We often need to develop skills and knowledge along the way to our ultimate purpose, so to not be discouraged if it doesn’t just come to you in a dream one day.

I do not think I have done this in a way that is quite this specific, but I do try to encourage the students with the strengths that I notice they have been given. I point out what I see God doing in their lives and the natural bent that God has made them with. I ask them what things are interesting to them and what they do want to be when they grow up. I think it is good to dream and have these discussions. It provides opportunity to discuss that money isn’t everything when it comes to work, and that God has a plan and purpose for each one of them. As they grow older it probably becomes necessary to be more specific, but in the elementary years I think it is good to plant the seeds that get them thinking about what it is that God might want them to do with their lives.

I currently do not do that. This is kind of a new idea for me. I guess I have thought in terms of God giving us wisdom as we pray and ask for it in order to make wise decisions like career paths. I think God’s calling on my life is to share the gospel where ever I am.

During math lessons, I connect the tasks we are doing to things that professionals do. I help students see how a single problem is part of a larger problem that professionals may be working on as they complete a project. When something resonates within them, I encourage them to investigate it further.
