Frequently in class and out of class our conversations go to their personal lives and how God is directing them. One particular student was having a bad time and expressed that he felt useless and good at nothing. I was able to share with him my perspective on his usefulness and God’s love for him as a professed believer to encourage him to get past these doubts to see himself as God does, as He shares in His Word.

I will talk with them about their strengths when I see they are particularly talented at something. I encourage them to strive to develop it and encourage them whenever I can.

We have discussions about how we are all unique and we all have special talents. I allow them to express their interests and apply it to things we do.

As a 5th grade teacher most of my students are not sure what their God-given calling is and I let them know that this is okay. I encourage them to try many different activities, try new things, and most likely one of those things will feel natural, fun, and make you feel confident. I remind them that each person is unique and that they do not need to compare their calling to anyone else’s. Just simply excel in the calling God has given you.
