I’m nither here nor there, my school requires that we do it anyways so I have already been doing it.

I have been trying to do this the whole time I have been teaching and have succeeded in some areas. This year I have solidified my curriculum a little more and so it does leave more time to find even more ways to integrate the bible into my lessons.

Developing a biblically integrated unit and lessons is daunting yet exciting. It is daunting because it will be a lot of work in the beginning. I want to ensure everything is contextually accurate. It is exciting and daunting as it will require me to dig deeper in my own Bible study time. It is exciting because it will make my teaching better. I will be able to better prepare my students for life outside the classroom, as well as for eternity. It will also make my day to day planning more simple, enabling me to speak to some of the students’ questions before they’re asked.

I suppose hesitant. I think there is an underlying biblical theme to my lessons, God is creator, let’s learn about his creation. I don’t feel the need to bring scripture into each lesson – what verse discusses organelles or protein synthesis? I bring in scripture at times to reinforce God’s truth, share my beliefs on current research that is against God’s word, etc.

I am excited to have the materials and insight to pull carefully crafted Biblical lessons that pertain to the state standards and skills we need to teach our students. However, curriculum planning takes time and many individuals to work together. I think having other teachers buy in to the need for this can be hard. The other problem that arises is the time that it takes to do so. As a classroom teacher I am completely overwhelmed during the school year and I honestly do not know where to find the time to fit in this planning. Do we need it? Yes. Is it essential for good teaching? Yes. However, to implement this when there are so many demands already on the classroom teacher can be problematic and needs careful consideration for how the planning can be completed.
