How do you feel about developing biblically integrated units/lessons? Overwhelmed? Excited? Hesitant? Explain.

Our school introduced us to Curriculum Trac this spring. It is a website for unit planning which includes a section for Biblical Integration. You should have heard the moans and groans from the teachers. Also the comment, “Are we going to get paid more for this?” It was comical, but also somewhat disturbing. I am one of those “freaks” that loves to do curriculum mapping and designing. It brings we many many hours of joy.

It does feel very overwhelming to me. I have learned when I feel that way to just begin with something small. I think in many ways I already integrate biblical concepts and our curriculum thankfully does a very good job of helping us. I have not been as intentional as I should be about biblical integration, however, and have much to learn. I can see how over time it will become second nature, but I sure wish I knew someone who could mentor me on a personal level.

I think it will be fun to develop biblically integrated lessons into my curriculum. There is so much wisdom in the Bible and I think that showing the students how to apply it today will help them in the future.

I find it a little bit challenging because as an ESL teacher, I do not follow my own curriculum. I support the classroom teachers and fill in gaps in students learning. So as far as developing a unit, I have never done that. I do have some ideas of how to integrate the Bible into a few lessons I have taught, but I am not sure how to do what I think is being asked of me here.

I am excited to develop Biblically integrated lessons. However, it will not be easy and I expect my first few units to have flaws. I am sure that the lessons will get attention from parents, and hopefully they will be supportive.
