I want to ensure everything is contextually accurate. It is exciting and daunting as it will require me to dig deeper in my own Bible study time. It is exciting because it will make my teaching better. I will be able to better prepare my students for life outside the classroom, as well as for eternity. It will also make my day to day planning more simple, enabling me to speak to some of the students’ questions before they’re asked.

I don’t feel the need to bring scripture into each lesson – what verse discusses organelles or protein synthesis? I bring in scripture at times to reinforce God’s truth, share my beliefs on current research that is against God’s word, etc.

However, curriculum planning takes time and many individuals to work together. I think having other teachers buy in to the need for this can be hard. The other problem that arises is the time that it takes to do so. As a classroom teacher I am completely overwhelmed during the school year and I honestly do not know where to find the time to fit in this planning. Do we need it? Yes. Is it essential for good teaching? Yes. However, to implement this when there are so many demands already on the classroom teacher can be problematic and needs careful consideration for how the planning can be completed.

Integrating biblical lessons makes me excited because I know that students are not only learning the skills needed for our content area, but they are also being impacted spiritually. Guiding students in their faith journey and teaching them biblical truth is a responsibility that I take very seriously.

I take this opportunity to impact student’s lives for the cause of Christ seriously. I want to honor God through it all. I am certain there will challenges expected and unexpected.
