How do you imbed the fruit of the Spirit into your classroom? Or, if you haven’t previously considered this, how might you go about it now?

Sometimes when I’m having a disruptive course, I can stand quietly with a smile on my face. The students are quite surprised and ask me why I am smiling. I answer that even though I am mad, I can still smile and have joy in my heart that I am their teacher and God put me here for a reason, to love them. I know I might not reach all the children but love never fails. Love is the only motivation that counts in God’s eyes. I must model it any chance I get.

In my second grade classroom, I have a chart on my back wall that shows all of the Fruit of the Spirit. I use it often and turn my students’ attention to it so that they can understand that those are fruits that we are showing when we allow the Lord to guide our lives. I build on it throughout the year and give them examples in life as well as take it back to biblical characters we have studied so they can understand we all are in need of the Lord’s help with these!

This will be my first year teaching. But I plan to imbed the Fruit of the Spirit into character education. I teach at a non-Christian school, but learning and encouraging these character traits are so imporatnt to a child’s social and emotional skills.

It is important to realize that these fruits are expected of all believers. I would point out where they are beneficial in certain situations and maybe praise students when they show them.

I believe that modeling behavior and making expectations know from the start help imbed the fruit of the spirit.
