How do you imbed the fruit of the Spirit into your classroom? Or, if you haven’t previously considered this, how might you go about it now?

I try to display it throughout my day despite whatever is going on in my classroom. Especially with my younger students, I can point out when a student is displaying a fruit of the Spirit. If I need to address the lack of it with a particular student, then it’s a conversation off to the side without the other students hearing.

Yes, just this week, I was reading and discussing humorous fiction books (in our library class) with a few grade levels. We discussed joy as a fruit of the Spirit and several scriptures regarding joy.

I try to model as often as I can, or share stories about Jesus demonstrating them. I do my best to come to school every day with a joyful attitude, I demonstrate patience when dealing with something frustrating, I speak gently, yet firm, to students who have done something wrong. I not only tell, but show my students I love them with my actions toward them and their peers. I also incorporate the fruits of the Spirit into classroom expectations, but modeling and showing them Jesus is important so students see how they are supposed to be treating themselves and others. I am also honest with them about my mistakes in the classroom, and we have lots of heart to heart conversations, whether that be one on one or whole group. We discuss how scenarios could've went differently and how we can handle them next time should a similar situation occur. We also talk about situations that were handled correctly to use them as positive examples.

I don’t currently embed the Fruits of the Spirit into my classroom. However, I do try to encourage biblical responses in how students treat others around them.
