The answers to the “big questions of life” influence my role as an educator because that is the basic needs of humans. We need to know why we are here on earth. We need to know what is our purpose. God created us with a void that can only be filled by Him. As an educator, it is my role to bring that knowledge to my students.

The Big Questions of Life include Who am I? Why am I here? Who is God? What plan does He have? By answering these fundamental questions in a biblical way, we can build the strongest foundation in the hearts and minds of students. This will inform them of their greater purpose than simply to get good grades, to attend a quality university, to have a successful career, making oodles of money, receiving accolades from man. As image bearers of our Creator God, we are commissioned with His purpose to use the gifts He gave us to build His eternal Kingdom. Students can approach their education, and even each lesson asking the question, How can I use this information to fulfill God’s call in my life, today and in the future?

The big questions of life discussed in this lesson remind me that God is using me as a Christian educator. They remind me that I am influencing the next generation. This task require time, effort, and a great deal of planning, but the rewards are eternal.

It helps me see the students as more than children filling seats… it helps me to see them as made in the image of God and the fact that I am also instructing them to be stewards of God’s Creation. It also helps me see that their souls are eternal and the time that I have with them should not be taken for granted. That time should be used to be sure their hearts are ready for eternity and for those that already know Christ to teach them the importance of where our treasure lies and how to lay up treasures in heaven not on earth.
