How do your answers to “the big questions of life” discussed in this lesson influence you in your role as an educator?

As an educator it helps remind me to reflect on how questions apply to my personal life. Students closely watch how teachers interact and speak with each other and when leading classes. When encountering teaching moments or otherwise known as mistakes, I take an opportunity to process with the student and give a perspective. When it comes down to it, a grade does not define the student, but standing firm on knowing who’s child you belong to can motivate a student to stand firm in know that they were created on purpose for a purpose by the Heavenly Father.

This is what I learned from this lesson: My calling as an Christian educator is to know and serve God in a school setting by educating children for eternity. To fulfill this calling cannot be done just by myself but I have the Bible and scripture to rely on as my foundation, and God always show me His wisdom and power to fulfill my job. I also was impacted by the Apostle John’s amazing life journey started as a teenager which I am sure my teenage students can greatly related to. The Bible is the rich resource to serve our students.

I am created by God to know and serve Him. This has to flow out of everything we do and say in the classroom. Everything has to point back to God.

When we as adults discover our Godly purpose in our spiritual life, personal life and professional life we align and God creates a beautiful balance. We come to understand our purpose for being here. As an Educator, when I acknowledge my primary role to share the love of Jesus with others while on Earth, my closest influencers are the children God has placed in my care. They are His sheep, and I have a significant role- SHOW THEM JESUS. Since I know that is the big “why am I here” question, it has become my focus. all other small things just fade away when I can keep that answer at the forefront.

What I personally believe about the answers to these questions of life will absolutely impact what biases and verbage I communicate to my students as I delve into the curriculum, especially with the subjects that I teach specifically…science and history. Science can be taught from a biblical worldview or an evolutionary point of view. When we dive into the why and how behind a topic like fossils, for example, I can either point to events in the Bible such as the Flood for answers or express the guesses of scientists that rely on change by chance. The Bible offers clarity and order to our lessons with a solid foundation to build concepts on.
