How does your understanding of the roots of the educational system in the US influence your view of education?

I think it is interesting to see where the roots of curriculum started and where they have progressed to currently. If we as Christians are to be different, then our curriculums must look different as well.

The Bible was the foundation of the curriculum. It was used to learn to read and comprehend.

The Bible was the foundational curriculum. The Bible should still be the foundational resource for our Christian education today.

The early system of education in America was designed to for students to know more about God. For learners/new generation to have access to God. Dr. Black said literacy(reading) in school was important so that the generation could read the bible. I am a music teacher, and it won’t be out of place to say that music is important in school so that every new generation can learn to worship God through music.

God wants us all to learn to read the Bible. He wants us to know and love him through his word. The Pilgrims knew this and that is why they wanted all their children to read. That is what our system was based on, factual biblical principles. As our country changed so did our educational system .We left out God and went to mastery and processes.
