How does your understanding of the roots of the educational system in the US influence your view of education?

Even before I became and educator or a mother, I never believed that education could be adequately achieved in a mass produced form. Children are not like pick a shoe size and if they shoe fits, buy it. I believe God made us all individual and we require a relational approach to education where experiences are inhanced by our relationships and that our understanding and learning is achieved (in depth and on the surface).

The roots of the educational system gives me hope, that in the beginning it was “on the correct path”. It’s foundations were rooted in Biblical truths, which offers hope for those schools that are trying to get back to the roots.

Traditional meaning originally education was about passing down Biblical truth. Slowly, we have moved towards process and mastery, where learning mastering specific standards have become dominant.

As a History major, none of the educational system history was new to me. However, knowing that a lot of the choices made by the education system had been put in place to set up students to be future factory workers really changed the way my former school evaluated certain practices.
