I understand the roots of the educational system in the U.S. to be firmly grounded in the Bible and Christianity. Schools were established so students could learn to read the Bible. Universities like Harvard and Princeton were originally founded to train pastors. The style of teaching was traditional and gave students a firm foundation in Christianity as well as moral standards and history.

It is very important that our children understand the foundation that our country is founded upon. We are blessed here in PA to live in an area where the amazing history of our state and country is very accessible. The governor’s room in our PA capital has a beautiful mural depicting William Penn’s “holy experiment”.

The roots of our educational system is God’s word and His truth. God created education with the purpose to share with the next generation about Him and His creation. It saddens me that public schools have steered away from this. Although they teach some of the same concepts without the Biblical Integration, God’s word is needed to inform us and guide us in all we do.

It is interesting to see the roots of the education system and it definitely makes sense why things have shifted as education has become more for the masses and society has changed as well.

It is helpful to know where the education system has come from in order to know and understand past mistakes and successes. That way, we can move forward, towards a solution that avoids pitfalls but synthesizes the solutions to our current context.
