There was a Christian worldview from the beginning of the US educational system. If we go back to traditional teaching, the Bible was included in everything through using it to learn how to read. Our founding fathers wanted us to have access to the Constitution and commandments. Private education points us back to our Creator.

After going through this chapter’s reading, I understand that the initial goal for education in the US was access to God and his words. It’s humbling to appreciate this foundational belief but also overwhelming to live in a decade of appreciable deviation from this foundational system.

My understanding of the roots of the educational system in the United States, which began with a traditional focus on reading the Word of God, significantly influenced my perspective on education. While the system has evolved to prioritize process mastery and state-specific standards, I firmly believe education should ultimately guide students back to God and His Word. This conviction shapes my teaching, as I strive to integrate biblical principles and values into my lessons.

The US system created a foundational platform in creating awareness of teaching students in knowing God as the basis of life.

Understanding the roots of education is learning the history behind it. The old traditional way of education was determined by the aristocracy. Boys were usually the only ones educated. The Pilgrims were the ones who wanted their children to learn how to read so they could all read the Bible. This changed how the education system was run. I am a female, and I should be thankful to the Pilgrims for paving the way for my education.
