It has been so amazing to teach in a Christian setting where Biblical truth is valued and seen as essential as part of our education system. The church and school used to be one and has been divided and our kids are suffering from a torn apart school setting where right christian values have been completely removed. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to talk about God freely – to pray and to especially be a science teacher in a Christian setting.

I feel very privileged to work at a Christian school. My perspective on education is different from going to private school myself as a child. This has influenced my view of character education. I am blessed to be able to teach character through Bible classes and Biblical integration into curriculum. I think that is especially important for students.

It encourages me as a teacher in a Christian School, that I can share the truths of the Bible in the classroom. Knowing that the roots of the educational system started with a biblical worldview, it’s exciting to support the move back to this original educational system where the Bible is the foundation.

My understanding influences my view of education in a desire to go back to the roots, as well as re-examine just how we might be trying to hold to those roots. I think that education should primarily be so that we are well versed and articulate in order to defend the faith and be best equipped to impact the world in the way that God calls each of us to do. However, I believe that many Christian school environments are seeking to do that without the level of critical thinking that is required. We need to not just teach students what to think, but how to think.

When I think about the beginnings of our educational system in the US, it has influenced me greatly because I chose to home school my two boys through 8th grade. In many ways, the home school groups that we engaged in were reminiscent of the small school house where there was one teacher to teach a group of students of varying ages and abilities. The older students would help the younger students and there was a strong sense of community that focused on God’s word, reading, writing, exchanging ideas and being able to think critically. I believe in many ways we have lost the art of communication and the ability to think well independently. With the onset of AI and the further use of technology, we are not becoming a more intelligent society, but a more dependent one on what technology can do to think for us to make life easier. In my opinion this is a grave mistake.
