The Bible should be the foundation of and not just part of the lessons. The lessons should arise from knowledge of the Bible and its lessons related to all parts of life.

When something is infused, it permeates the whole and becomes part of something else. Dr. Black wants us to understand that we must be infused with the Lord and know Him through His word. If we do this, we can infuse our lessons with the foundation of who God is and how we can best relate to Him. I was thinking of a lesson about the earth’s rotation and revolution that I taught this past year. I told the students that God created the universe but now I think I could add to the lesson. I would add some open ended questions to ask them to think about what are the implications of that. “Since God created the universe,
    I know that . . .
    I am . . .
    The earth is . . .”
I would love to see where my students would go with these types of questions.

When I think of the word infuse, the image of water having been infused by something such as lemon or cucumber comes to mind. We leave those things in the water for a certain amount of time. While we can remove the lemon or cucumber, we could never get the flavor out of the water that was just infused. There would be no way to separate out the flavor from the water because it is fully part of the water now. Circumstances and lives can change, but if our lives are infused with the Word of God, it won’t matter what changes because God’s Word never does. It cannot be removed from us. In our daily lessons we should be striving for infusion of God’s Word.

I understand “infuse” in this context as “inseparable”. For example, when teaching students about the Pythagorean Theorem, it is entwined with the underlying Biblical base. Which seems odd initially. But in reality, praise God for such an elegant mathematical equation to an otherwise very difficult problem.

I really like the analogy that she uses. That God’s word is so much a part of the teaching that it cannot be separated without the lesson unraveling. I hope that each of my courses feel this way.
