How might you use what you learned in this lesson in your school/classroom?

I think having universal standards is helpful, giving schools a benchmark to aim for and understanding of where societal education exists. It does not speak to the success of each individual student though. It is necessary to help students not only achieve benchmarks but also attain a mastery of information. In teaching the whole person, helping them develop tools to learn on their own is essential, and that cannot happen if you are only looking to meet standards.

I think we should be very careful as educators, when it comes to methods of teaching. We should learn to make a balance in life, where there is a space to include all methods of teaching. In this lesson we talked about traditional and process/mastery. The teacher has specific information and lessons she wants the students to master. I think it’s a good thing to have a standard by which we can measure and make sure all are being taught as equal as possible. If we don’t pass along the tools our teachers gave us, our future men and women will become ill equipped to build and maintain their society.

I may use what I learned to show students the standard to which they are held and assessed, while still leaving room for discussion and help.

Standards are very importance in the school setting. It must be balanced with traditional processes as well.

I enjoy identifying standards in the way of “I can” statements and sharing them with my students so they know the what and why of they are learning. I think they need to see the goals for themselves and be able to recognize and check off their accomplishments.
