Well, if you don’t have a goal then you will not achieve it. Mine is a little different because I teach Art. That being said, I have certain goals and objectives that I want my students to understand and try to achieve. Because we are in a Christian school, these objectives are woven with Christian values in mind making it traditional. But because it is Art, there are processes to learn to master a technique.

We are teaching students to be citizens in the world. They need to be educated well above the minimum standards set by the local government, taught how to learn and how to become life-long students. We are taught to teach to differing abilities and that is important as well, so that all can benefit from their education. However, it is most important that we teach, as Harvard students of long ago, to have a defense of their faith in God.

I think it would be beneficial to my school to create our own curriculum (apart from textbooks) that incorporates our Biblical worldview while also including state standards. As a Christian educator I want my students to strive to learn educational concepts that are required by state standards with a Biblical worldview. I also think this challenges me as an educator to think outside the box and no get so caught up in testing/scores. Our goal is always to glorify the Lord in whatever we do. That looks different for every learner.

Having standards is important and necessary to help guide instruction and to ensure that students are mastering concepts. However, as Christian educators, we need to evaluate whether those standards also align with biblical principles and the goal of educating the whole student.

This lesson will help me analyze the type of approach I will be using with my students. I have always had to stick to the standards when I worked at public schools. I will focus on making sure whatever approach I take will align with a Biblical world view.
