I love the idea to stop in the bad moment and make it better. Take a break and come back and start again. I will use this idea!

This lesson made me really think about why I am teaching. Sometimes it can be easy to get consumed with the difficulties of teaching but this lesson can provide a change in perspective. If God called me to this, I know that even through it can be hard, it is where I should be and God will gives me the tools I need to help these students.

We don’t know how long we all have on this planet, so my job is to encourage students to make the most of their time to glorify God daily. Whether in word or deed we need to do it all for His glory.

I especially enjoyed this lesson because Ellen spoke about our humanness as teachers and how we can expect to have challenging days in the classroom where nothing seems to be going right. How it’s o.k. to have do-overs and let the students know that it’s o.k. to have bad days too. But through a redemptive mind-set, we can draw closer to Christ and know that we are sinful and not perfect and the more we draw closer to Christ, the more we may become like him. Having an attitude of 2nd chances and new starts is healthy and good because our Heavenly Father has done this for us.

I was reminded that I am teaching students, not curriculum. If students don’t understand a concept, I can re-think my approach and re-teach. My goal is to teach my students what they need to learn and to provide the necessary supports to help them be successful.
