I like the idea of resetting. Sometimes it’s important to throw an assessment out or just start over. This allows for grace to be shown to the students and myself, and allows us a fresh start to better understand concepts the next time around.

I really liked how Dr. Black said that if the students are having an off day to stop what we are doing, take them outside to run around, then come back in and restart. Also, if an assessment didn’t go well, have them rip it up and start over.

As educators, we are called to teach students and help them to go out into the world and make a difference. Kids are more bold than adults are. If we can educate kids at a young age to talk about God and his redeeming qualities, we could bring so many more people to Christ.

I teach English and love reading. I think we can look through a spiritual lense in most hongs we read, what is God trying to tell us, how does the story and its message prepare us to be a part of God’s world? Asking these questions can help teach about forgiveness, redemption, sacrifice, love, kindness, etc.

Also, I really love the idea of resetting when something isn’t working. I have done this in a lesson, but really connect to the idea of using this as an example of salvation and redemption

God wants us to fulfill His calling in this short life by preparing ourselves to bring His love to other people in whichever vocation we choose. He also made provisions for us to know the fulfillment of our eternal destination with Him. I want to look for opportunities to explain the gift of salvation, a restored relationship with our Creator through Christ, in my lessons. Not in a way that is awkward and unnatural, but as a logical presentation and application of the scientific topic at the time.

The conversation Dr. Black had about how to handle a lesson that didnt go well or behavior that is out of control was extremely helpful for me. She said, “Redeem the Day!” Even in a non-Christian school, I can teach the concept of redemption by giving a fresh start to the children and make the best of time we have together even if some of the day did not start off well.
