I think that my teaching has aspects of all these approaches. There are times when my lessons are very traditional in that all learning is teacher facilitated. My assessments and learning do revolve around whether a concept has been mastered. I do allow for some constructivist approaches such as centers, and hands-on-learning. I would like to incorporate more student driven assignments, and inquiry based lesson where the students are more active learners.

I believe that I have a more traditional approach to teaching in my classroom, but there are many times where strategies from constructivism and process mastery are incorporated as well. One of the greatest benefits to the constructivist approach is a more active response to learning for the student through hands-on activities. One thing I would like to improve on is to add more variety and flexibility in assessment.

My approach is traditional and mastery. I will use a variety of modes to introduce, teach, and reinforce topics that will include hands on activities and media. The students may have different learning strengths and these options when available will support learning. Communication with the parents in my course will be very important. I want to hear and consider their concerns while continuing to support the entire course.

I’ve worked in classrooms where I would use mainly a traditional or process mastery approach. I would also allow the students to use different ways of presenting a lesson we just completed. This works great for the more creative students, but I do see that for other students, just writing a paper is more of their strength. What might need improvement is for me to come up with more creative hands-on activities that seem to capture the majority of the students, but sometimes we have limited time or resources.

I am only in my second year of teaching, so I am not sure I have a set approach, but last year during my first year of teaching I actually used a bit of each approach, depending on the lesson and student needs. Because I mostly had traditional teaching growing up, I tend to start there, but I use process mastery when I need to slow down or repeat lessons. Rarely, I will use an constructivist approach during whole group lessons, but instead use it in guided small group teaching. Half way through my first year of teaching, I started to see some places I could move on for most of my course and then circle back around with my small groups instead of waiting to move on with the whole course.
