As stated in the previous discussion post, I tend to use more traditional approaches to my teaching. However, I believe incorporating more constructivist approaches would be worthwhile. One time, I assigned a project with various formatting options and the students really appreciated that they could produce the project using their best skillset. This is something I would love to implement more.

I think my approach to teaching is more traditional. I do like to build on learning and previous knowledge.

I will be using mostly a traditional orientation in my classroom, with some process/mastery, and a little constructivism within the boundaries of a lesson or assessment goals for the student. I am not sure yet what works and what needs improvement because I haven’t been in the position yet but I want to reassess after the quarters and the year with this information in mind.

I would say my approach was a mixture of the 3 orientations. I was very traditional and process mastery oriented when crafting the standards and focus of a lesson. I would then make a constructivist approach component in that I created very hands-on learning experiences. When teaching 30 students in one room, you need to have many approaches to learning that work with learners and a mixture of the three seemed like a fit for my time in the classroom.

I think I have aspects of all three of these approaches in my classroom. I like variety and, though I do include some routines, I like to change things up. I do build in student choice, but definitely not to the extreme that the constructivist approach suggests. I use the standards and curriculum as a beginning point and add/modify to enhance the learning. I would like to build in more hands on projects this year.
